By the time I was revising my senior project idea, I also finished one of my personal 3D modeling projects. For the sake of time, I wanted to create a game that was centered around my personal project, Howel’s Moving Castle. Then I rewatched the whole movie and took screen shots for reference. I also started modeling right away, and I have completed the basic layout of the living room inside of the castle.
The basic idea I had for this second version of the game was about finding Lucas. The logic of the game was based on the movie plots. In the movie, Lucas was the demon that controlled the whole castle. It got all the power but one restriction -- he cannot step out of the castle or else the castle would clash into ash. Therefore, I was designing my game about finding Lucas and bringing it back to save the castle. One thing that I didn’t change was the idea of darkness and exploration. I just was so into the idea of glowing and seeing the surroundings only when you were close enough.
However, this idea was not endorsed our professor due to the potential legal issue and stuff. I was convinced to revise my idea to design a game that was more original. Then it came to my version three of my senior project proposal.
Proposal 2
Before this quarter ever started, I wanted to do something with VR for my senior project. The very first spark of this idea came from the time when I first tried on a PlayStation VR headset, and the vivid experience I experienced that day never got out of my head, and I decided that I wanted to create a world of my own.
I only have two quarters to work on this project, and I don’t think that is enough time to make the entire thing too complex. On top of that, I am more of a 3D art person rather than a coder, so coding may be one of the troublesome obstacles for me in this project. To ensure that this project will be completed on time, I decided to make it simple on the interaction aspect, which doesn’t require too much coding skills.
The basic idea that I had when I was designing this game was to convey a feeling of being lost and making an immersive world that had never been experienced by anyone before. The deep sea scene just came to my mind instantly. The very first idea I had for the project was to create a world that was completely dark. It was about exploration in a way that you could see the surroundings by getting really close to them. The only light source was from the user (I had the idea of making the user glow). I was also debating between this idea and the idea of having some glowing deep sea creatures flowing in the air to create a feeling of mysterious.
